Area de Conservación Guanacaste Checklist
Background
This page will, in time, provide access to a Checklist for all 9600 species of Lepidoptera known and estimated from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), northwestern Costa Rica. Because there are so many undescribed species, it is not currently possible to provide a complete Checklist. Instead, it will be assembled over the next 5 years as inventory, taxonomic and barcoding studies advance on a family-by-family basis. At present, the Checklist includes information on just two families- Saturniidae and Sphingidae. Information on Hesperiidae will be added later in 2005. These lists employ interim epithets, constructed using the name of the identifier and a numeric code, for undescribed species.
Finding a Species
You can either find a particular species using the search function or view all species in a particular family or subfamily. Click on the family name to access its member subfamilies or species. When species are not assigned to a subfamily, they are shown as unplaced.
