As saturniids and sphingids occur in almost every region, bar Antarctica, there is a serious need to reinforce the ranks of the current campaign participants. If you are a researcher with expertise in lepidopterans, the current campaign participants would welcome your involvement. Amateur naturalists can also aid progress on these campaigns by collecting specimens and submitting them for analysis.
If you live on either of these continents, you could play a key role in advancing these campaigns. If you are a researcher with expertise in lepidopterans, the current campaign participants would welcome your involvement. Amateur naturalists can also make a very great contribution to the project by collecting material for analysis. There is no need to identify the specimens; taxonomic experts on the project team will execute this work.
Only 2 of the 128 known lepidopteran families are currently being barcoded on a global scale. Make a mark by tackling a new family.
You can also aid the development of the global barcode library by launching a new regional study or, if you have enough allies, you can tackle a new continent.
If you would like further information on how you might aid the lepidopteran barcode effort, please email Paul Hebert or any of the other campaign coordinators.
