Sphingidae of the World Checklist

Background

This Checklist includes the 1288 species of sphingids recognized by Kitching and Cadiou (2000). These species are assigned to three subfamilies and 202 genera. The Macroglossinae are most diverse with 733 species, and 86 genera. The subfamily Smerinthinae includes 329 species belonging to 77 genera, while the Sphinginae are represented by 214 species in 39 genera.
